REM

R.E.M. is an American rock band formed in Athens (Georgia, USA) in 1980 by Michael Stipe (vocals), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass) and Bill Berry (drums and percussion). R.E.M. was one of the first popular alternative rock bands. R.E.M. released his first single, "Radio Free Europe" in 1981 with the independent label Hib-Tone. The next single was the EP Chronic Town in 1982, and was also the first single from the band with IRS Records. In 1983, the band released their debut album, Murmurs, very good reviews. In 1987 the band became one of its main achievements, with the single "The One I Love.
In the early '90s, when alternative rock began to become popular, REM was considered a pioneer of the genre and released two successful albums of the band, Out of Time (1991) and Automatic for the People (1992). In 1997, Bill Berry left the band, although Buck, Mills and Stipe continued.
